Be very careful!

We bought a grey 12 reg Clio from Bowers Motors for my 17 year old daughters 1st car. When we viewed the car we were told that they had taken it in part exchange but the manuals / service history were being posted on to them. There was also only 1 key. We agreed to buy it and were told the day before picking up the car that they had the manuals etc. We collected the car and everything seemed fine until we got home and looked at the paperwork. The manuals weren’t even the right ones for the car, they were for an older model and the service history was blatantly forged; all entries were in the same handwriting (also matching the invoice from Bowers Motors!) and the mileage and dates matched exactly to the MOT details available online. I have more details but too much detail to post on her I investigated the service history myself and after speaking to a garage that MoT’d the car several times found out that the car had been written off a few months ago and the salvage company had collected the car from the garage. The lad who wrote it off didn’t claim on insurance so it didn’t show up on a HPI check. Following advice from Citizens advice I contacted the garage saying that I wanted to return the car for a refund. They gave me my my money back but denied any knowledge of the car being written off (I have more details to prove their dishonesty, but too much detail to post on here) It is legal to put damaged cars back on the road but it’s not legal to withhold that information and sell it for the price of a car that’s never been in an accident. I’ve since discovered a website called https://www.vcheck.uk/ which checks for salvage history. If I’d know about this before it would have saved me a lot of hassle!
