Purchased a car with a faulty gear box (car had no reverse gear). Advised the garage of the issue less than 24 hours after purchase. Paid privately to take in to a local garage to diagnosis. Confirmed gearbox issue. No response from Auto Sales UK to rectify the situation despite two written requests. Unsure what the warranty was suppose to cover as it seems like nothing was covered and the warranty telephone line goes through to a Tesco mobile voicemail that is full all the time. Was advised by the finance company to reject the car within 14 days of purchase (this is your legal right) I did this and discovered I was still paying tax on the car I traded in that they had also not settled the finance so was still paying for a car I had traded in. ALWAYS EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO RETURN WITHIN 14 DAYS. If they botch a job and you get the car back and a week after the 14 days the problem comes back, you are on your own. Also worth noting garages like to drag out issues to fix to ensure they go over 14 days. Took the faulty car back, photographed the car returned on the forecourt also had to get the garage to sign a piece of paper I had prepared confirming date of return, there was no mention of returning my deposit, I asked for this and was told the card machine does not do refunds so could have the money transferred to me or cash if they popped the cash point (after all the trouble experienced, I waited for the deposit back in cash before leaving). 1 week later I received confirmation from DVLA of non ownership and refund of car tax. Surprise surprise two+ weeks after return of the car the finance company still believe I have it as the garage have not paid them the money back! Had to supply evidence to finance company of car return.
