A very disappointing experience

In June 2018, I was persuaded to view an E-cars car in Cardiff in large part, by this text from Rob, the proprietor: “It’s only a short distance [from Bristol]. If you buy, I will deliver the car to you.” On June 25th, I received this text: “It’s ready to go! I can deliver within 24 hrs of payment.” I paid that day, but Rob never delivered the car. He refused on the basis the train was running a bus replacement and he was “not prepared to undertake the journey.” A week later, he agreed to deliver to a station 9 miles from my home, but he stood me up, blaming traffic (Google indicated 20min delay) and the heat. This is the text he sent me: “It costs me to deliver, I said I would do as a favour. There’s a problem with the trains and traffic. That’s what happens in life!” Rob is unapologetic, aggressive and defensive; nothing is ever his fault. It’s you and your unrealistic expectations. 10 days after I paid, I took the train he wouldn’t and collected the car myself. Rob never refunded my train fares, as he indicated he would, and, as I drove away from the pick-up in Cardiff, the fuel light came on. Six weeks later, the car broke down. Rob told me that because I only paid £4.4k and it’s a 2009 model, “it should be expected.” He did offer to look at the car, but only if I brought it to him in Cardiff. I covered the cost of a local repair in Southampton (where I broke down) to avoid the cost and risk of further interaction with Rob. And you may waft me down with a feather if Rob does not maintain that none of this was his fault. No mortal man such as he, can control the trains, the traffic and the temperament of clapped-out cars and he threw in a free service! However, he also shouts, immediately wailed that I had besmirched his name, has no worldly grasp on the concept of customer service and an ostrich approach to problem management. If you cannot make a meeting Rob, tell me before you’re already late. He is also based in Cardiff. All this renders the mitigation based around services from his garage, rather worthless. Rob will not go the extra mile to meet his promises, pre-emptively manage situations or initiate contact once you have paid. I warn future customers not part with their money until the car is delivered. If you aren’t local, take note of the particulars of the warranty. I am happy to provide anyone with screenshots and sales documentation in the event Rob (as he does will all his negative reviews) rolls out our favourite Trumpism and claims this is ‘fake news.’ Let’s hope he just wails about the trains, the heat, the traffic and the silly old car he claimed was in impeccable condition 6 weeks ago. It took no small amount of restraint after that fuel light beeped Rob, not to write this review. “It should be expected” just earned you it. Sir, you besmirch yourself.
