I feel that Dealer quotations for potentially undertaking service work should always be perceived by the 'customer' as fair and sensible'. Sad to say in this case it did not: For the job of replacing a pair of door mirrors I was quoted over £500 for parts plus fitting . I appreciate that in addition to sourcing only official OEM stock items, the dealership has to cover its administration fees, business rates and labour overheads - but still queried the quotation as I had found that the matching parts in question can be sourced brand new for only £28 each! I was politely challenged by the very helpful gentleman behind the service desk to go and get them from the internet then!.......So I did. [The cost of ordering two brand new OEM -ChryslerJeep - mirrors from the USA with shipping and handling all inclusive, came to $178 (or £124) packaged and delivered . On receipt of the parts I removed the old door mirrors and fitted the new OEM items in eight minutes! (Yes eight minutes. A task which only involves 'unscrewing three 3/16" nuts per mirror' after easing off a couple of interior plastic trim covers and the power plugs for each unit ). I even avoided the hassle of driving the car in to the dealership and leaving it for half a day for the work to be done there . Even with adding-in the 'time cost' of allowing for the 40 minutes of my time taken to facilitate sourcing and import of the merchandise this writer saved several hundreds of pounds by NOT using the dealer. For the brand of vehicle which I drive I was disappointed by the 'parts and fitting' quotation for potentially undertaking such a basic and very simple task seemed grossly excessive and it is not conducive to 'brand loyalty'. Thank you.
