Car does not start after a week's use

We bought a car from Whittlesey car sales last weekend, it has since broken down, after only being driven a few times. The guy who owns the dealership is refusing to reimburse us despite it being the law now that if the car fails within 30 days of purchase then you can reject it and be refunded in full. He is trying to say that the car was sold to us as spares, why then was it advertised with an MOT (passed in May 17) and why did we take it on a test drive, and why would we pay £500 odd for a car that was just sold as not working and for spares only? It was sold as in good working order, otherwise we wouldn't have purchased it. We are now having to go down the road of writing letters, and referring them to the consumer ombudsman. Any advice of being successful with getting your money back quickly from this company would kindly appreciated.
