Sold a faulty car, didn't fix it...

Car was bought from Downs Autos with a near illegal tyre. It developed a coil failure after a few weeks, a few months after the water pump failed. They abdicated responsibility for the coil to their warranty company, at an excess cost to me of £50. The water pump then failed 3 months later. The dealer refused to fix either faults and has suggested this is a normal situation in buying a used car, from a dealer and that he has no legal requirement to fix the issues because the car wasn't broken completely broken at the point of sale!
