A fifty six year old itch scratched!
When I were but a young lad, a manager at a shop where I worked after school had a MD TF Midget. I wanted one then and have continued with that wish ever since, however, women, drink and kids got in the way but not necessarily in that order. I have seen a few for sale since retirement but managed to resist but a white TF came up for sale some time ago at Sussex Sports Cars. I continued to resist but recently the draw became too much! I went down to view and found that it was in excellent condition albeit it, not concours. A test drive convinced me that now was the time to scratch the itch. Tony and his team were excellent providing help and guidance to assist me. After a few days for the payment to go through and the car to have a new MoT and a little fettling it was mine. A little hesitant on the way home as I attempted to remember how to “double de-clutch” (no need to really apart from when changing down to first because the synchro is fine but it makes me feel good), remembering to take into account no power brakes and the lack of power steering. I felt good. We live in a small Sussex village and just before arrival I came upon roadworks controlled by a young gentleman with a STOP lollipop standing alongside a board advising all and sundry to expect a 15 minute delay, however, the gentleman walked toward me saying that I shouldn’t worry it wouldn’t take too long and that he only stopped me so that he could admire my purchase! True to his word, once having done the walk around the turned the board to “GO” and I was off with a salute from him. Since then, I have been astonished by the number of people who have been kind enough to wave as we are passing, showing us the most respect in giving way to us at junctions and making really kind comments as we pass. Thank you Tony and team for making some of the most enjoyable driving experiences that I have had possible. Expect to see me again when I need to get the car a service, my only question is “Why didn’t I do it before?”
