Beyond belief

I telephoned in week one to check the cars I was interested in were still there, and was assured by a friendly gentleman that they were. Next week we drove from Yorkshire to the New Forest to see the cars. Week 2 Tuesday I spoke to the same person and made an appointment to view 3 cars late morning next day. Wednesday at 11.30 we arrived at the premises. The Riley Pathfinder, our main interest, was in the middle of the showroom tightly hemmed in by other cars. The gentleman, not the one I had spoken to, had no knowledge of our visit. He stated that it was too much bother to move several cars to get the Riley out. I managed to get in to the drivers seat, it was really too dark to see anything. I gained permission to start the engine, but the battery was flat. The person then stated that they did not get cars ready because people say they are coming then don’t turn up. He then told us the P5B and the Sunbeam Talbot were in another depot 500 yards down the road, but he couldn’t take us to them because he was alone. The ‘other depot’ turned out to be a series of disused greenhouses. We.couldn’t find the cars. The tragedy is that if the Riley ran as well as it looked we would probably have bought it. A serious waste of our time and money, and the worst customer service I have ever experienced.
