Do not leave a deposit on a car!

Left a deposit prior to purchase as the car needed 3 items fixed and MOT. When it went through for its MOT, it needed 11 repairs and failed the MOT! Consequently I no longer wished to purchase it, as they had already taken over 4 weeks to get to the failed MOT stage. They refuse to refund my £500 deposit, despite it being their fault it was not available for purchase. Do not purchase from this firm at any cost?
