Thank you Alan Roderick 3 reviews·11 photos just now NEW Unsafe vehicle provided. Good afternoon, This is an open letter of complaint, regarding an issue I had with a curtesy car provided to me by York Ward & Rowlatt in Wellingborough. On Friday 12/01/2024 I brought my Peugeot 208 into the York Ward & Rowlatt garage in Wellingborough for a major service, I had arranged for a curtesy car to be provided for the day. The Curtesy car provided was a Vauxhall Corsa E, KN23 WWF, millage 3885, I was shown the interior of the car and how to start and stop the engine and made aware of the different functions, so far so good. The first part of the Journey has uneventful driving to Earls Barton to pick up my elderly father and then back home to Weldon park, but on the way back from Weldon park to York ward & Rowlatt to collect my car, with my elderly father in the car, whilst driving on the A43, new by pass road I experienced a major blow out of the front passenger wheel, whilst doing 70 miles an hour on the A43 duel carriageway. This caused loss of control of the vehicle which I had to fight with to keep from hitting the lorry next to me and then to get the car safely to the side of the road. When I manged to get the car to the side of the road by which time my father and myself where extremely shaken, I called York Ward and Rowlatt, and the first person I spoke to I explained the situation including that the car was in a dangerous position and myself an and my father where now on a grass verge by the side of a busy road, with cars and lorries swerving around the now stranded car. The person I spoke to said they needed to check procedure which is the first issue do you not train your staff, we where in a potential life-threatening situation I had an elderly man with mobility issues with me and this person didn’t know what to do. I was then sent a phone number which when I called sent me a link to website which I couldn’t access due to no internet. Next, I had to make three more calls to York Ward and Rowlatt to get some help sent, luckily in the meantime someone stopped and was able to help get the car to a safer location, by this time my father was cold, scared and very upset. Your service desk seemed more concerned with me paying for the new tyre than getting any help. The RAC arrived and took the wheel away and changed the tyre which I paid for. Once back at York Ward and Rowlatt I explained my frustration about being sent out in an unsafe and unchecked car to which one of your directors and I have witnesses to this asked if I check my car every day, I’m sorry I don’t lend my car out to the public. If York Ward and Rowlatt deem that an acceptable response when two people have almost been killed in one of your curtsey cars, then I feel you need to reconsider your customer service, when I have told people of this response they have been shocked. I understand the car was checked a week earlier again according to the same director and no further safety check was carried out prior to me taking the car, I only did 60 miles in the car total just under 50 at the time of the incident, this leads me to question the safety of your cars. The lack of concern was shocking even when I returned, I witnessed the lady I had been dealing with earlier in the day checking the car, and talking to the director before talking to me and asking if I was OK. Nice to know that people’s safety at York Ward and Rowlatt is second to the car. As well as this the director seemed more concerned with me posting on social media about the issue, which I have now done, and I have tagged your site on the post so you can see responses. Another question I was asked do I have the tyre I’m sorry but know I was more concerned about getting myself and my father to safety again thank you for your concern.I do expect a full report into what happened and why an unchecked unsafe vehicle was provided to me. I have attached photos of the tyre.
