Not worth the risk

Seen a van advertised which looked the part, so I hastily called to secure it. I was asked for a £400 deposit. Few days later I noticed the van was a Cat s write off (My fault for not seeing it), although only stated on motors.com HPI check. His eBay and website adverts didn’t say otherwise. He explained to me the details of the crash and how the damage was “very minimal” and not to worry. So I took a friend of mine whose job is specifically to decide if cars are write offs or not and deciding if repaired write offs are safe to go back onto the road. .I won’t go into to much detail as to what he found but needless to say the van was in terrible condition and by no means in the small accident I was told. I’d paid him the £400 two weeks prior to seeing the van, yet When we got there the headlights were held onto the car with snapped but glued on brackets and the glue was still wet. Multiple parts under the bonnet were loose or hanging off. There was just under 3thousand miles more on the clock then when I made the reservation. When questioned, the attitude started. “Well what do you expect from a write off”. The price of this van was 14grand by the way, and Trust me, the list of things we found goes on and on. Including panel gaps I could fit my whole hand in. After of course declining the purchase. He refused to give me back my £400. Saying I had no grounds for having it back and he advertised the van very honestly and clearly. I feel like I’ve been completely conned out of my money but luckily enough it was only £400 and not 14grand, Although after my friends analysis of his van, he reposted it the next day for £12999. Probably factoring in the £400 he’s stolen from me. On the off chance you are reading this wondering about buying a van from him. The Reg plate for the transit is VU16 VCE; don’t go near it.
