Mr A
Quite simply appauling !!!!!!!
My wife purchased a car from Stebbings at the beginnng of this month as a gift for me for completing 23 years service in the Armed Forces. At first the expereince seemd to be OK. My wife dealt with a sales assistant who seemed to be helpful and knowlegable but we have since found out that the warranty information she provided was false. My wife explained to the sales assistant that the car would be driven to the Netherlands immeadiatly after purchase and would eventually be exported from the UK. At which point they discussed the validity of the Warranty. My wife explained that it would be unlikely that the car would be taken back to the UK unless there was something seriously wrong with it. The response she was given was that this would be ok and the warranty would be valid for three months. The first minor problem was the car wasnt cleaned correctly, It had a strong smell of cigarette smoke . My wife had little option but to accept the car in this state because she had to drive to catch a ferry at Dover. This just so happened to be the day that the port had delays for over 7 hours. The second minor problem was the headlining falling off the sunroof runners. A bad feeling had started to set in!! Low and behold a few weeks into purchasing a, 19000 pound BMW the car develops a high pitch squeel at startup and a fault code appears on the dash detailing an engine fan fault. Amazing!!! So I decided to phone Stebbings to see if we can arrange for the car to repaired. I must stress that the car is now in the Netherlands (as described) but it is still a UK registered car. (It hasnt been exported yet!) Guess what the rersponse from Stebbings was? Thats it you guessed it, the car isnt covered under warrantly. Apparently as soon as you drive it out of the UK the warranty is invalid. My next question. so if i was driving to the EU on holiday and developed the fault would it be covered, the answer was yes. EH! so you cover for holidays in the EU but you dont cover cars that havent been exported. My final question, are you willing to give some kind of good will gesture to help towords the cost of the repair. GUESS WHAT THE ANSWER WAS!!!!! To all individuals who read this, please think carefully about purchasing a car from this company. Reading the other reviews and relating these to my expereince. They have a strong tendancy to mislead and lull you into a false sense of security. Old fashioned dodgy car salesman comes to mind.
