The best used car buying experience

We were after a hard to find model and Silvers had just the right one. I messaged them expressing an interest and they offered to hold the car for us without a deposit, until we could see it, which involved a 200 mile round trip. The car was exactly as described and very well priced too. The salesman Martin Nixon was unlike any car salesman I’ve met, with absolutely no pressure. The dealership was the same, with no BS “upselling” of GAP insurance, paint treatment etc. They knew from the outset that we wanted to buy a car and let us proceed on that basis. We were offered an unaccompanied test drive, with no limits imposed like duration or distance. The test drive was great but I expressed a little concern that the tyres may need replacing with a year. They were all legal and safe but I like to know my tyres’ history. I offered to contribute toward the cost of fitting new tyres, but Martin refused and said the tyres would get looked at in the pre-sale service and check. We arranged to collect the car a couple of days later, made the journey and everything was ready on time. The car had four new tyres at no cost to us. From the outset I was wary of the risk of being “stung” - I’m cynical and when buying a used car I expect to be dealing with someone whose aim it to pull the wool over my eyes until I have handed over the money. (Sorry, honest car salespeople!). At Silvers, I think Martin is a decent guy who has decades of experience and he knows what car buyers want and need, and what they don’t want. Apart from the breath-of-fresh-air buying experience, there’s obviously a very slick, professional operation underpinning what we saw, resulting in the business meeting or exceeding all my expectations and adding in the unexpected surprise of the tyres, which they did not need to do. Yes, the car is absolutely fine, so for this all the above reasons I am giving 5 stars all round. We’re there any negatives? Well, the fresh smell of the valet was a bit strong. We had to keep the window open for the first mile or so. ;-)
