I bought a Peugeot 206 estate from Reliance Garage in Helmsley .I paid the full asking price (he would not budge 1 penny) and to be honest he was a bit flippant about the whole transaction (I should have walked away) but I wanted one of theses cars to go to work in and take the dog in .So I paid in full and drove it home even though it was very dirty inside and out had had the car for about a month when I put it in for a service (it had also developed a creak on the rear and the suspension was very harsh). I was told that the car was dangerous to drive as there was a major problem with the rear swinging arm of the rear suspension and I was quoted £1000 to repair it (I paid £3000 for the car). I contacted Reliance Garage (this was 6 weeks after purchase and covering only 300 miles). He was very unhelpful and reluctant to do anything about it.so I parked the car on my drive and didn't use it any more, he did admit that they had made some repairs to the rear suspension before selling the car. I again rang reliance and got no where and then when I did ring the guy dealing with it was out or with a customer and would ring me back( he never did) so I had to write a letter and I said that I may have pursue it in court. He then contacted me and we agreed that he would supply the replacement part and that I would contribute to some of the labour cost (I am a reasonable guy after all) a couple of weeks later I took the car back to be repaired and a week later he rang and said it was done and I owed him £250. I was left with no option but to pay . throughout I kept my calm and dignity and to be fair so did the garage but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I couldn't drive the car as it was and I couldn't afford to lose all that money and scrap the car and couldn't sell it as t was .I was stuck between a rock and a hard place I just wanted to resolve it as easy and quickly as possible. Reliance Garage had a legal obligation to sell the car in a proper condition as this is the law for motor traders but at the end of the day if they weren't going to help me. I'm just letting people know about my experience. I think that they shouldn't have sold the car knowing it had a problem and that once it had come to light they should have either refunded me (but they wouldn't) or repaired it free of charge. I ended up selling the car as it felt unsafe (if you applied the handbrake whilst travelling backwards or the rear facing an incline the cars rear would rise into the air and make a terrible clunking sound) as they had not repaired it correctly. I suppose I could have kicked off and took them to court but I needed a car that worked and I couldn't afford to drag it out but I would never go back there, Hope this review of Reliance Garage helps people.
