Purchased a car in March. On the journey home the check engine light came on. Called MH Motors up and either they are psychic or they knew damned fine there was an issue with the 02 sensor as they assured me this is what the problem was, based solely on my telephone call telling them the engine light had come on. They asked me to take the car back up to them (100 mile round trip) and they would plug it in to their computer to confirm. So, appointment booked for them to plug it into their computer. Drove back up on day of appointment, they plugged it in and sure enough less than a minute later it apparently showed that the 02 sensor was faulty. They then said i'd have to book it in again for another day for the sensor to be replaced. Having booked it in again for the sensor to be replaced we drove back to MH Motors on the day of the appointment, only to be told that we would have to leave it, possibly for a few days as they;d need to order the part (that they knew on the previous visit we needed) and they had no idea when the mechanic would have time to fit it. We were leant a Fiesta that not only guzzled fuel like nobodies business (not great considering we had a 50 mile trip back home, some college runs to do and then a 50 mile trip back up to MH Motors) but it turns out it actually had an illegal tyre which I only discovered when pulled over by the Police. The following day having received no call to tell me the car was ready, I called MH Motors and requested we be able to pick up our car as imho they had had ample time to put the sensor on. It wasn't a big job. I also made them aware of the fact that they had sent me off in a vehicle with an illegal tyre and not only that I had been stopped by the Police. I received not one word of an apology, neither over the telephone or in person when I returned to collect my car, Thankfully there was no further issue with the engine management light following replacement of the sensor however, within a week or so the car then developed an intermittent knocking, moreso when braking. Over the next few days it got worse so I took it to our local tyre centre and they gave it a quick once over and said there was no issue with the brakes, though they could hear the knocking. They said they could see nothing out of place and thought maybe it was something that they couldn't see and that would need a mechanic to investigate further if it continued and or got worse. It continued to be intermittent and then progressed to being continuous. As we weren't relishing another 100 mile round trip to MH Motors to return the car for them to inspect we took the car back to the tyre service to see if they could now see something as the noise was louder and persistent rather than the intermittent knocking it had been previously, They popped the car up to inspect underneath but there was nothing visibly wrong, apparently. So, we called MH Motors and they asked us to describe the noise. Informed us we would need to book it in to take it up to let them hear the noise so we did just that. Booked it in. Took it back up another 50 miles. The mechanic had no idea we were even coming on the morning we arrived and didn't seem to charmed that we weren't able to leave it. Apparently one car families are an alien concept to them and clearly we must be even weirder as we aren't just able to leave our car for an unspecified amount of time while they find the time to look at it...despite making an appointment. Silly me. Their mechanic took it out for a drive but apparently couldn't hear anything. He returned and asked if we could accompany him on another test drive, we agreed and sure enough the knocking/banging noise was very loud and able to be heard, Asking for the mechanics thoughts on a possible cause and he said straight away that it was the gearbox. Understandably shocked as there had been no cause for concern as far as the gearbox was concerned we were then told that the car would have to be booked in (again) and it would then go to the man they used for gearboxes at another garage. It would then be determined whether, due to the age of the car, it would be "worth" fixing. We were unable to book it in there and then as I didn't have my diary with me so told the mechanic we would telephone later that day. Still shell shocked at MH Motors mechanics diagnosis and having only had the car a short time and now with the cars future hanging on MH Motors say so of whether it was indeed "worth" repairing we took the vehicle to our old mechanic. Within 30 minutes he discovered that every single wheel on the car was slack...There was also a wheel nut missing now whether that was missing when we purchased the car or whether it had sheared off owing to the fact that the rest of the nuts were so loose we have no idea. But what I do know is this. Firstly I have dealt separately with the tyre service who failed to notice that all the wheels were slack. However, booking our car in with MH Motors in an attempt to get a diagnosis for the by that stage horrendous knowing/banging noise and being treated firstly like an inconvenience and THEN to be told that it was the gearbox is frankly unacceptable. As is buying a vehicle, being made to drive up and down 100 mile round trips each time like we are just popping around the corner in a car that very obviously had started off with wheel nuts that had not been tightened properly, hence getting to the stage that they were so loose they made the car sound like something was falling off....Its just a miracle that we didn't lose a wheel, especially with how many journeys up and down the motorway we had had to make to MH Motors. NOT acceptable. I only wish we had read the reviews for this place first and hope that anyone even considering making a trip to these chancers thoroughly investigates them beforehand.
